The Debate Artalade Montagna Vineyard Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon
The Debate is a Napa Valley house built around a single argument: which vineyard makes the greatest Cabernet Sauvignon. Rather than settle it, the winery bottles small lots from several celebrated sites each vintage, including Beckstoffer Dr. Crane and Missouri Hopper, and lets drinkers compare, with consulting winemaker Philippe Melka, one of Napa's most decorated talents, guiding the cellar. The Artalade Montagna Vineyard bottling comes from a high-elevation site on Atlas Peak in the Vaca Range, where thin volcanic soils, intense sunlight and cool mountain nights produce small, thick-skinned berries of exceptional concentration. The wine is aged about 20 months in French oak, the majority new, and bottled unfined at around 14.8% ABV in 750ml. Expect blackberry, black currant, violet and crushed rock with graphite, cedar and mocha, a dense, full-bodied palate with mountain tannins that are firm yet polished, and a long, savory finish built for 15 years of cellaring. Decant two hours and serve with a bone-in ribeye or braised lamb shoulder. Vintages may vary; we ship the current release.
