Ezra Brooks was born in 1957 as a Jack Daniel's lookalike during a Jack shortage — square bottle, charcoal filtering, a sound-alike label — and it's outlived the joke as a Kentucky value bourbon. It's been a Luxco brand since 1993 and has been made since 2018 at Lux Row Distillers in Bardstown, the company's own distillery, after decades of Heaven Hill sourcing; the brand honors a fictional Ezra Brooks, a Kentucky distiller of legend. The standard bottling is Kentucky straight bourbon from a 78% corn, 10% rye, 12% malted barley mash bill, aged in new charred oak, charcoal-filtered in the house tradition that softens the young corn, and bottled at 90 proof in the square bottle.
