Accenti Dry Vermouth
Accenti Dry Vermouth, nicknamed Mugwort Multiverse, is a small-production California aperitif from Accenti Wines, the husband-and-wife project of James and Lorenza Bazzano Allen. Lorenza trained in viticulture and enology in Italy, completed a master's program in France and worked in Portugal and Australia before the two reconnected in California at Failla; they now farm a handful of tiny vineyards around Napa Valley and make the wines in Sonoma County. Their farming is regenerative and organic, with no tractors, no irrigation and winter cover crops, and the winemaking relies on spontaneous fermentation with no added yeast, bacteria, tannins or enzymes, long lees ageing and little or no sulfur. The vermouth starts from a base of their Riesling and Cortese, fortified with Sonoma County brandy and lightly sweetened with organic sugar. The botanicals were developed with Big Spoon, herbalist friends in Sebastopol: mugwort, chamomile, orange peel and fresh-picked Douglas fir tips. The producer describes mugwort bringing spice and gentle bitterness against honeyed chamomile sweetness, with bright orange peel and piney fir, and suggests it over ice, with seltzer, or in cocktails.
