Brucato Amaro Mission Gin
Mission Gin is Brucato's first step outside amaro, and it started as a one-off in the Experimental Series before the result proved too good to keep small. Made in the Mission District of San Francisco by founders James and Sierra Clark, it's built on the same California grape brandy base as their award-winning amaros, redistilled with around ten botanicals chosen for flavor and for the story each tells about the city: juniper for structure, Meyer lemon peel for its bright electric energy, coriander for the cultural mix of its people, California bay laurel for the parks, and fennel for the windswept headlands and ocean dunes, alongside cardamom, angelica, and Artemisia californica. K&L's tasters called it a "New Western" gin — juniper attends the party but isn't the life of it — with citrus and coriander dominating the nose, fennel arriving late and lingering into a long, savory finish. Expect fresh lemon zest, green herbs, and clean pine, with a dry, savory palate where bay leaf reads most prominently, warm spice underneath, and a texture that leans fresh rather than austere. Drinkhacker found it surprisingly savory and cocktail-friendly. A natural in a martini, a gimlet, a G&T with a bay leaf garnish — and genuinely built to pair with the Brucato amaros in a Negroni. A love letter to San Francisco, distilled.
