Darioush Signature Russian River Valley Pinot Noir
Darioush is best known as a Napa Valley estate, and its Signature Pinot Noir is the winery's Russian River Valley expression of the grape. The Russian River Valley in Sonoma County has cool mornings, sunlit afternoons and a long harvest season, conditions that build flavor while holding on to acidity. Bottled at 15.5% alcohol, the wine is a bolder and riper wine than many Pinot Noirs, but the tasting notes emphasize its silken texture. Aromas of wild raspberry, pomegranate and Rainier cherry drift from the glass, joined by rose petal, bergamot and fresh thyme. The palate is red-fruited at its core, with notes of rooibos tea, cocoa husk and a trace of clove, and a bright, flowing finish. The generous alcohol gives it weight, so pair it with duck, goose or other game birds, or roasted pork and grilled mushrooms. Serve it slightly cool, around 60 degrees, and decant briefly so the alcohol does not mask the delicate floral notes.
