Desert Door Texas Sotol
Desert Door is the Texas sotol, made in Driftwood, outside Austin, by three veterans who set out to revive a spirit that has been distilled in the Chihuahuan Desert for centuries. Sotol is made not from agave but from the desert spoon plant (Dasylirion), which Desert Door harvests wild across West Texas ranchland, then cooks, ferments and distills in copper stills. Bottled at 40% ABV (80 proof) in a 750ml bottle with a striking blue-and-white ceramic design.
The taste is smooth and earthy with herbal, grassy and citrus notes, a hint of minerality and a clean, slightly sweet finish that recalls both a blanco tequila and a soft gin. Sip it neat or over ice, swap it for tequila in a margarita or a Paloma, or try a Ranch Water with lime and Topo Chico. A true taste of the Texas desert and a must for agave-spirit explorers.
