Don Q Reserva 7 launched in August 2020, blended by master blender Jaiker Soto working alongside Silvia Santiago and Roberto Serrallés — sixth-generation Maestro Ronero at Destilería Serrallés — combining lighter, multi-column-distilled rum with heavier, single-copper-column rum, both aged a minimum of seven years in American white oak. Tastings.com scored it an impressive 92 points, and independent tasters have largely echoed that enthusiasm: expect a medium-amber pour with a nose of unripe banana, cacao, vanilla bean, and tropical fruit, opening into shaved coconut sweetness reminiscent of coconut cream cake, then white banana, oak, and dried apricot moving toward a finish that closes on fruity bubblegum and snappy wood spice. Other tasters have picked up rancio, sassafras, grilled peach, toffee, root beer, and jasmine, or caramel, dried apricot, honey fig, and dark cacao with cinnamon and nutmeg. Drinkhacker was more measured in a separate review, giving it a B- and calling it better suited to cocktails than solo sipping. Bottled at 40% ABV, it's genuinely versatile either way — good enough to sip neat, but built with enough backbone to anchor a proper Daiquiri or Old Fashioned riff.
