El Gran Legado de Vida Añejo Tequila
El Gran Legado de Vida Añejo Tequila is the aged flagship of the Legado line, produced at NOM 1123, the Cascahuín distillery in El Arenal, Jalisco, by Salvador Rosales Trejo for Tequila Legado Corp. Like its siblings, it starts with 100% Tequilana Weber agave from a single estate in Michoacán, cooked in stone and brick ovens, milled on a roller mill, fermented without fibers in open-air stainless steel tanks with deep well water, and double distilled in a stainless pot still with a copper coil. The añejo is matured for more than a year in a combination of French oak, American white oak, ex-Cognac casks and ex-bourbon barrels, then blended and bottled at 40% ABV (80 proof) in a 750ml bottle. Tequila Matchmaker reviewers score it highly, finding cooked agave, caramel, butterscotch, oak, vanilla, cinnamon, leather and a thread of mint and anise on the nose; buttery caramel, honey, barrel spice and pepper on the palate; and a smooth, medium-length finish with tobacco and light wood. It stays agave-forward despite the oak. Pour it neat after dinner, or in an Old Fashioned in place of whiskey.
