Foley Johnson Estate Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon
Foley Johnson was founded in 2012 by Bill Foley, and his wife Carol Johnson Foley, and takes its name from both of theirs. The winery sits on the Rutherford Bench along Highway 29 in the heart of Napa Valley, with estate vineyards planted to Bordeaux varieties on the famous Rutherford dust, the gravelly loam that gives the appellation its signature earthy, dusty tannins. The Estate Cabernet Sauvignon is the flagship: the 2021 was blended from 83% Cabernet Sauvignon with 15% Petit Verdot and a touch of Cabernet Franc and Malbec, aged in French oak barrels and bottled at 15.1% ABV in 750ml. The winery describes striking aromas of black cherry and tobacco with plum, blackberry, a hint of strawberry, brown sugar and forest floor, then a palate of blackberry, dark chocolate and cocoa powder with medium-rich tannins and a long, velvety finish. Critic Owen Bargreen rated the 2022 vintage 93 points, noting crème de violette and tar, strong viscosity, underlying freshness and refined tannins, with a drinking window through 2035. Serve it with prime rib, porcini risotto or a dry-aged New York strip. Vintages may vary; we ship the current release.
