High West Double Rye Whiskey
High West Double Rye Whiskey is the flagship rye from High West Distillery in Park City, Utah, and the bottle that made High West's name as a blender. The double in the name refers to two ryes: a young, spicy 95% rye and 5% malted barley whiskey from MGP in Indiana, and High West's own pot-still rye, made from 80% rye and 20% malted rye and aged up to seven years, blended together and bottled at 92 proof.
The younger rye brings the pepper, mint and dill that make Indiana rye so recognizable, while the older High West component rounds it out with honey, vanilla and oak. Breaking Bourbon's notes describe light hay, pine and a touch of oak on the nose, muted sweet vanilla, honey and cinnamon stick against rye spice on the palate, and a medium finish of sweet rye spice and oak. It is a workhorse cocktail rye, sharp enough for a Sazerac or a Boulevardier and smooth enough to sip, and it is the base for High West's Yippee Ki-Yay and barrel-finished cocktails.
