Home Base Bitter No. 02 Liqueur
Home Base Bitter No. 02 is the second liqueur from Home Base Spirits, the female-owned Berkeley, California producer founded in 2015 by twin sisters Ali and Sam Blatteis. The producer describes it as a darker, jammier cousin to its first Bitter expression. The base is a brandy distilled from Zinfandel rose grapes grown in Lodi, CA at Hinterhaus Distilling in Arnold, CA. Into that go organic cherries from Inzana Ranch in Hughson, organic figs and apricots from Jaffe Bros. in Oceanside, galangal root from Oaktown Spice Shop for bitterness, and Bay Area wildflower honey from Oakland's Bee Healthy Honey Shop for sweetness. Batch 3 was released in February 2024 and is bottled at 33% ABV. Home Base built it to mix with its own bourbon and single malt but says it also drinks well on its own; the producer's tasting notes list grilled apricot, cherry cream, apple, sun-dried raisin, honeysuckle and warm baking spice. Like all Home Base releases it is blended and rested at the company's Berkeley warehouse, with full ingredient sourcing printed for each batch.
