KIN Bourbon Whiskey
KIN is a small family-run California whiskey brand started in Los Angeles by Bernard Lax, who spent years sourcing moonshine from Georgia with his best friend before making his own in a makeshift Venice Beach distillery and then contract-distilling the finished recipe to bring it to California bars and liquor stores. His son Taylor Lax, a working bartender, and nephew Eric now run the brand, and early on sold it out of their car before it landed in more than 100 California bars and restaurants. KIN Bourbon, sometimes labeled KIN Brown Bourbon, is the aged companion to the brand's flagship white whiskey. Retail listings describe a mashbill of corn, rye and malted barley, distillation in a copper still system, aging in new American oak barrels, and a proprietary filtration step the producer credits for the spirit's smooth finish. It is bottled at 80 proof (40% ABV). Retailer tasting notes list caramel, burnt sugar, coffee and toffee on the nose with chocolate, molasses and nutty flavors on the palate. The brand positions it as a traditional bourbon with a modern taste, equally suited to sipping or cocktails.
