Portofino Dry Gin

Portofino Dry Gin was created on the Ligurian Riviera by co-founder Ruggero Raymo and partners as a tribute to the fishing village of Portofino, and it is produced for the brand at the historic Antica Distilleria Quaglia in northern Italy. The recipe uses 21 botanicals, many of them grown or gathered in the Portofino Regional Park: juniper, orris root, angelica root, lemon, tangerine, grapefruit, lavender, rose, rosemary, marjoram, sage, bay laurel, sweet fennel, chamomile, caraway and cardamom among them. Each botanical is macerated separately in wheat spirit for seven days, then distilled individually in a copper pot still or rotovap before the distillates are blended, which keeps each note clean and bright. Bottled at 86 proof (43% ABV), 750ml. The Gin Guide finds it light and fragrant with juniper, lemon and rose up front, hints of cardamom and garden herbs, and a warm finish of bay, rosemary, fennel and soft spice; Falstaff rated it 93 points, noting a full-bodied, earthy, savory mid-palate.
