Rhum Bologne Réserve Spéciale Rhum Vieux Agricole
Réserve Spéciale is an aged rhum agricole from Distillerie Bologne, the oldest working distillery in Guadeloupe, established as a rum producer in 1887 on a three-century-old cane estate in Basse-Terre at the foot of La Soufrière volcano and run by the Sargenton-Callard family since 1930. It is a blend of rums aged at least four years in French oak casks that previously held Cognac, overseen by cellar master Frédéric David in the distillery's semi-buried chai of some 2,000 barrels. The rum is distilled from fresh cane juice from black and red cane grown on the estate's volcanic soil; Bologne is the only Guadeloupe producer still cultivating the rare, hand-harvested black cane. It is bottled at 42% ABV in a 700ml bottle under the Guadeloupe geographical indication. Retailer tasting notes from Rhum Attitude describe apricot jam and ripe cane on the nose opening to blond tobacco, candied cane with apricot and orange jam on the palate, and a velvety nougat finish with orange peel and mango; Cask Cartel notes a delicate, deep nose, a rich, balanced palate and a long, smooth finish. The distillery won six medals at the 2021 Concours Mondial de Bruxelles.
