Robert Craig Affinity Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon
Robert Craig, a former Hess Collection executive, founded his namesake winery in 1992 to champion mountain-grown Cabernet, and Affinity has been the house's signature Bordeaux-style blend since the first vintage. Winemaker Stephen Tebb builds it from high-elevation Napa Valley sites whose tiny clusters provide strength and structure; the 2023 is the first release to blend fruit from both Mount Veeder and Moon Mountain, two sides of the same ridge, and is composed of roughly 81% Cabernet Sauvignon with 12% Merlot, 5% Malbec and 2% Petit Verdot. Aged in French oak with a judicious share of new barrels, the wine finishes at 14.8% ABV in a 750ml bottle. The winery describes it as deeply colored with mineral, graphite and black thorny-vine fruit on full display, and Vinous awarded 92 points for its brisk acids, red-toned fruit, blood orange and cinnamon, calling it bright and focused. Mountain tannins and lift make Affinity a strong partner for grilled lamb, mushroom dishes and hard cheeses, and it will reward five to ten years in the cellar. Vintages may vary; we ship the current release.
