Roots Mastic is a mastiha liqueur distilled with the crystallized resin of the mastic tree, which is harvested only in the villages of southern Chios in the Aegean. It comes from Roots, the Greek craft liqueur label founded in 2013 by brothers Manos and Nikolas Smyrlakis, whose family has operated N.G. Callicounis Distillery in Kalamata since 1850, and follows a centuries-old recipe using 100% natural Greek ingredients. The producer describes it as 100% distilled with Chios mastic and bottled at 28% ABV (56 proof) in a 700ml bottle with a natural cork stopper.
