Seelbach's Private Reserve Wheated is founder Blake Riber's attempt to put the fruit-forward, Van Winkle-style wheated bourbon he wrote about in his viral 2013 Poor Man's Pappy post back on shelves at a fair price, under the mantra The Available Wheated Bourbon. The whiskey comes from Green River Distilling in Owensboro, Kentucky, from a 70% corn, 21% wheat, 9% malted barley mash. Batch 001, released June 2025, blended ten barrels: six aged four years and ten months (about two-thirds of the blend) and four aged seven years. Riber slow-proofed the seven-year barrels over several months, stepping them from roughly 120 proof down to 110 before blending, and the final whiskey is bottled at 107 proof (53.5% ABV), the same strength as Old Rip Van Winkle 10 and Pappy 15. Breaking Bourbon rated it 3.5 and called it a well-executed, affordable wheated bourbon, noting honey, caramel, brown sugar, dried apricot and baking spice on the nose and strawberry jam and pie crust on the finish. InsideHook reported the first 2,400-bottle batch sold out in under 48 hours.
