The Calling is a collaboration between a Sonoma-based winemaking team and family grower partners, with winemakers James MacPhail and Wayne Donaldson working directly with growers to source from sustainably farmed California vineyards. For this Pinot Noir, the grapes come from Monterey County, a cool region where wind and fog off Monterey Bay slow ripening and help preserve acidity. Bottled at 14.5% alcohol, the wine shows dried plum, cranberry and earthy notes on the nose. The palate is round and soft, with lush tannins and flavors of strawberry-rhubarb pie, muddled cherries and petrichor, the scent of rain on dry earth. Monterey Pinot Noir often has ripe red fruit with a subtle earthiness, and this bottling reflects that, with a medium-bodied frame and a smooth, long finish. The wine is easy to pair with roasted poultry, creamy pasta, grilled salmon and pork tenderloin, and it also works with mushroom dishes and soft cheeses. Serve it lightly chilled, and let it open for a few minutes to bring out the fruit and earthy notes. 750ml bottle. Vintages may vary; we ship the current release.
