Patriarch is one of the top Pinot Noirs from The Calling, a Sonoma-based label where winemakers James MacPhail and Wayne Donaldson work directly with family growers to source fruit from sustainably farmed California vineyards. This bottling comes from the Sonoma Coast, where fog and cool ocean air stretch the growing season and give the grapes a combination of concentration and freshness. Bottled at 15.0% alcohol, Patriarch is a ripe, big-hearted style of Pinot Noir with a concentrated palate and velvety tannins. A solid, winey core of morello cherry and boysenberry preserves leads the way, with juicy energy for support and a licorice snap and iris notes in the finish. The vintage's succulence keeps the richness from feeling heavy, and the wine should have broad appeal to fans of fuller, more generous Pinot. It drinks well now and can age for several years. Serve it a little cool to keep it lively. Pair it with grilled lamb, roast duck, braised short ribs or wild mushroom risotto, or bring it out with a steak when you want something softer than Cabernet. 750ml bottle. Vintages may vary; we ship the current release.
