Wildwood Spirits Kur Gin

Kur Gin is the flagship gin of Wildwood Spirits Co. in Bothell, Washington, the craft distillery founded by Seattle sommelier Erik Liedholm with restaurateur John Howie. The base is a house vodka made from 100% Pacific Northwest grain, Washington red winter wheat, distilled until clean and neutral. Seven botanicals are then fractionally distilled, each on its own, and blended: juniper, Seville orange, Douglas fir, cardamom, fennel seed, coriander and Braeburn apple, the apples originally picked from Liedholm's own Seattle backyard tree. Bottled at 80 proof (40% ABV), 750ml. The distillery describes a classic juniper foundation lifted by bright Seville orange and the earthy freshness of Douglas fir on the nose, with cardamom, fennel and coriander spice unfolding on the palate alongside a hint of sweet apple. Wine & Spirits Magazine called it wonderfully fresh, with juniper in front balanced by floral coriander, tangy citrus and pine. It is a London Dry style gin with a Northwest accent, crisp enough for a dry Martini, and the distillery's favorite call is a Negroni, where the fir and orange cut through the vermouth and Campari.
