Wolfburn Langskip Cask Strength Highland Single Malt Scotch Whisky
Wolfburn Langskip is the full-strength expression from the northernmost distillery on the Scottish mainland, built in 2013 in Thurso on the site of an original Wolfburn distillery from 1821. Named for the Viking longships that once ruled the northern seas from nearby Caithness, it is matured entirely in first-fill bourbon casks and bottled at a robust 116 proof (58% ABV), non-chill-filtered and naturally colored, in a 700mL bottle.
The nose is a powerful blend of coastal influences, briny sea air and maritime spice with dried fruit and vanilla, then a velvety, smooth palate of rich honey, toffee, oak and a touch of sea salt with a gentle coastal smokiness, finishing long and warming with dark chocolate and a hint of brine. A bold, high-strength craft malt at a fair price, and a fine bottle for the drinker who likes to add water to taste.
