Habitation Velier Providence 2020 4 Year Haiti Pure Single Rum

Habitation Velier Providence 2020 is the first aged release from Providence, the distillery Velier built in Port-au-Prince, Haiti, that fired its first spirit in 2019, and the first aged Haitian rum in the Habitation Velier line that Luca Gargano launched in 2015 to champion pure single rums, 100 percent pot still spirit from one distillery with nothing added. Distilled in 2020 on the distillery's Muller copper bain-marie pot still from Cristalline cane grown around Saint-Michel-de-l'Attalaye, fermented with selected yeasts and dunder from earlier runs, it was laid down in ex-Caroni casks, the barrels that once held the legendary closed Trinidad distillery's rum, and aged four years in the Haitian tropics, where the angels' share ran past 26 percent. Fourteen barrels made up the vintage, and it was bottled in 2024 at barrel proof, 55% ABV, 110 proof, with an ester count of 265 grams per hectoliter of pure alcohol on the box and no sugar added. Retailers describe it as funky and grassy, the raw cane and high-ester punch of the white Providence rounded by four years of wood and a whisper of Caroni's tar and dark fruit. It comes in a 700ml bottle with the illustrated Habitation Velier gift box. A landmark bottling for Haitian rum and one of the scarcest releases in the Velier range, aimed squarely at the collectors who chase Hampden, Worthy Park and Caroni.
