LaRoche-Vacquié LRV Haut Armagnac Single Oak 2004
LaRoche-Vacquié is one of the very few producers left in Haut-Armagnac, the small eastern sub-region around Lectoure in Gascony that accounts for roughly 1% of all Armagnac. Bruno and Sylvie Compagnon bought the estate, formerly a prune and apple farm, in 1986, replanted vines in 1990 and gradually returned the whole 25-hectare property to vineyard on limestone soils with a thin clay layer. The farm converted to organic in 2008 and has run on its own solar farm since 2011. This Single Oak 2004 is release LRV-01 from the house's experimental LRV atelier: estate-grown Ugni Blanc and Colombard, single distilled, matured 22 years in a single French sessile oak cask (Tronçais, cask number 81 bis), then bottled unreduced and unfiltered in 2026 at 55.7% ABV with the cask now finished. Each bottle is hand-sealed, dated and numbered. The producer describes it as layered and toasted, with gentle spice and a lingering vanilla finish. The estate was named Best Armagnac at Fest'Armagnac 2026, and Bruno Compagnon was made a Knight of the Order of Agricultural Merit in 1997 for reviving Haut-Armagnac.
