Flor de Caña has been made at the foot of the active San Cristóbal volcano in Chichigalpa, Nicaragua since 1890 — five generations of the same family, now one of the most awarded rum distilleries in the world. That volcano isn't marketing: its microclimate drives intense heat through the aging warehouses, accelerating the interaction between spirit and wood so the rums develop unusual depth for their age. The house commitments run through every bottle: naturally aged in ex-bourbon barrels with no added sugar, accelerants, or artificial ingredients, distilled using 100% renewable energy, and certified Carbon Neutral and Fair Trade — the company has also planted 50,000 trees a year since 2005. The result is a distinctively dry style that stands apart from the sweetened rums it competes with. The range runs from the charcoal-filtered Extra Seco 4 Year and the gold Añejo Oro through the Gran Reserva 7, the Centenario 12, and the widely loved 18, up to the 25 Year Single Estate, the 96-point 130th Anniversary bottled at 20 years and 45%, the Carbon Neutral-certified Eco 15, and the ultra-rare V Generaciones — a single cask distilled in 1988, released in just 411 bottles. There's also Spresso, a coffee liqueur built on the 7-year rum.
